Happy New Year 2009!

Most people try to find a popular and crowded spot to spend the New Year, but this Year we did the opposite. We spent the night camping in the forest. After closing up early on the 31st we headed for Koreshan Historic Park near Fort Myers. We got to the park with less than an hour of daylight to set up our tent and have dinner. By the time we got settled the sun had already set. So we ate dinner using a flashlight.

My dad wanted to get a bucket of KFC to make things simple, but my mom and I agreed that would take all the fun out of camping. So we met him halfway. We made dinner on the electric grill. We had beef, shrimp, scallops, and as many vegetables that were left in fridge. It's funny how things taste better when camping. My mom kept saying how good the white rice was.

We weren't the only ones that had a nice dinner, the next morning we found Something had torn through our trash bag.

After breakfast we took a ride around the park. Right behind the campsite is a beautiful river. I guess that's what most of the campers go there for because a lot of them had their own canoes and kayaks. Then there was the Koreshan Settlement. It kind of reminds me of the movie "The Village."

We left the park around ten and headed for our next destination, Sanibel Island. There were miles and miles of shells on the beach. But I think after all the vacationers from Christmas to the New Year many of the bigger ones were gone by the time we got there.
