Going to Beijing
We took the overnight train to Beijing. It was about a twelve hour ride but it wasn't so bad because we could sleep through the ride. And the bed was pretty comfortable. Tommy took the top bunk, he said the mattress up there was a bit harder.
When we left ther station we were greeted with snow flurries. From the station we took a taxi to the hotel. I'm not sure what the taxi driver was doing but it seemed as if he was driving in circles for the first ten minutes. Finally decided to call the hotel and have them tell the driver how to get there. We were a bit skeptical about the hotel. The description said that the room had no windows and no elevator, it also had a list price of about 1200 RMB but the rate we got was around 200 RMB a night.
As you can see the room was pretty nice. No view from the window, but spacious and clean. It was also conviently located near the sights and bus routes.
You can walk from the hotel to the north-east corner of the Forbidden City in less than 5 mins.
