Yu Yuan Garden

Today Jennifer with her husband Samuel took me to the Yu Yuan Garden. First we drove by the Bund which is the famous waterfront in Shanghai. On one side of the river you see all the old buildings and on the other side is all the new buildings. We had a delicious lunch at the famous Old Shanghai Restaurant. Then we went to the Yu Yuan Garden.

According to my guidebook, "Yu" means peace and comfort. I think this is a perfect name for the garden because it a nice escape from the craziness from the shops right outside it's walls. But maybe it is only because we went fairly early in the afternoon that it was peaceful. Around the time we were leaving there were many tour groups entering the garden and it was beginning to get crowded.

This guy was feeding the fish. He tried to get them all riled up. The fish would fight for the food and swim over each other to the point that their bodies would be above the water. Then he would try to touch the fish.

At one part of the garden you can walk up some steps and look beyond the walls. You can see the Oriental Pearl Tower in the distance.
